Competitive Company Requirements


All of the APA rules and policies pertain to the members of the APA Competitive Company.  To participate in the APA Competitive Program all members must additionally sign an agreement form stating that they have read, understand, and agree to follow the APA Student Policies and Procedures as well as the APA Competitive Company Policies listed in the Competitive Company Handbook.  To obtain a copy of the Competitive Company Handbook, please contact the studio.  Below is a general overview of Competitive Company Requirements. Again, please contact the studio for a the detailed Competitive Company Handbook which also includes the company Contract.  

1.      Participation in the Competitive Company is by audition. 

2.  A $15 Music/Audition Fee per dancer is due at the Company audition.  This fee is non-refundable.  

3.  Directors will cast members of the APA company into assigned dances and rehearsal slots for competition dances.  All Company placements will be made based upon the audition scores as well as past APA Company Performance.  

4.  All Dancers auditioning must read and agree to adhere to the competitive Company Handbook and provide the directors with the completed Audition Form, Registration Form, Waiver, Music/Audition Fee and signed Company Contract.

5.  Directors will assign appropriate class levels for all Company Dancers.  

6.  All Jr. & Sr. Company Dancers are required to take Two (2) Ballet Classes, One (1) Jazz Class and One (1) Tap Class.  All Petite Company Dancers are required to take One (1) Ballet Class, One (1) Jazz Class and One (1) Tap Class.  All Mini Company Dancers are required to take One (1) Dance Class.  In addition to required classes all Company Dancers must attend scheduled rehearsals.  

7.  Attendance for Company Dancers is mandatory for all classes and rehearsals.  All Company Dancers are allowed Three (3) absences.  More than three absences WILL result in the dancer's dismissal from choreography and/or the company.  APA Company Dancers are expected to notify the directors when & why they will be absent.  Absences from rehearsals are not allowed the week prior to a competition.

8.  All returning APA Company Dancers may choose to do a duo or trio.  The directors will assign the choreographer for the duo and/or trio.  There are additional choreography and rehearsal fees.

9.  Solos are permitted at the discretion of the directors and the directors will assign the choreographer for the solo.  There are additional choreography and rehearsal fees. 

10.  The $200 choreography fee for all solos and $175 per dancer for duo-trios is due in CASH at the dancer's FIRST REHEARSAL.  If this fee is not paid, the rehearsal will be cancelled.  

11.  A $50 Costume deposit per dance is due upon Company placement.  If the deposit is not made, the dancer WILL NOT be allowed to start rehearsing the dance(s).  These fees are non-refundable.  The remaining costume balance will be in October.  No costume will be handed out until they are paid in full.  

12.  The company will plan on competing in a maximum of Five(5) regional competitions and One(1) National competition.  Nationals are optional for Company Dancers, however we will need to know before October 1st if a dancer will not be able to compete at Nationals and choreography will be staged accordingly.  

13.  All APA Company Dancers are expected to set a good example of proper behavior and dance etiquette.  We expect 100% from our company in all of their classes, rehearsals, and at competition.  The use of cell phones in the studio during class and / or rehearsal is prohibited.  Cell phones must remain in Company Dancer's dace bag during competition hours also.  

14.  National Company Camp (if attending Nationals)  and at least one week of Dance Intensive are MANDATORY for all APA company Dancers.  The APA Competitive Company is a 12 Month Commitment. 

15.  Entry fees MUST BE PAID IN FULL on or before the deadline.  If these fees are not paid the dancer WILL NOT be allowed to compete.

16.  ALL COMPANY MEMBERS MUST OBTAIN, READ AND ADHERE TO ALL POLICIES LISTED IN THE COMPETITIVE COMPANY HANDBOOK.
